About
There is a barrow rising in among the hills, like a stone rift in the waves of a rolling green sea. In the midst of its earthen bones howls an open black mouth. What beckons in its depth? Restless dead chieftains? The twisted doings of fey folk? The largesse of ancient times in highly wrought silver and gold forgotten but reckoning to a king's ransom? Who can say, but it has gathered an unlikely fistful of adventurers to it, and they turn their feet and their empty purses towards it, swords and staves in hand...
The campaign is being run using a house-ruled version of Swords & Wizardry, an old-school retro-clone of the original Dungeons & Dragons rules sets. It draws heavily from classic game materials of the ‘70s and early ‘80s, such as City State of the Invincible Overlord. Currently a group of mostly new players and mostly females run by a referee who started with the basic game as a boy in 1981.

Author
Theodric's mom gave him this when he was about ten years old. It changed his life. Now a disillusioned academic with a small child of his own leaving him hardly any time to blog, he finds running a weekly game more important than ever. This blog is for that weekly game. Call him Referee, Judge, DungeonMaster, or GameMaster, he is the lead player for a group of new players in an old but newly popular game that also goes by many names.
