Fiction
- Jirel of Joiry stories by C. L. Moore, who was among both the early great f/sf writers and the first females in the genre, wrote these stories of the premier female warrior character. Sadly, there are only five stories: Read them all!
- The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsaney
- Fahrd & the Grey Mouser series by Fritz Leiber. Near perfect and either introduced or played with the most famous tropes.
- Dying Earth series (skip first volume) by Jack Vance
- The Chronicles of Amber (in particular the first series), Dilvish, the Damned, and The Changing Land by Roger Zelazny
